Field of Activity

Kanto

Peruz Terzakyan, also known as, "Peruz the Kanto singer", "Perviz Hanım" or "Afet-i Devran" (The world's beauty), performed between 1870-1912. Peruz Terzakyan wrote her song texts and also composed her own songs. She founded the kanto group "Sahne-i Alem" (World stage) and was thus also the employer and supporter of other kanto singers, such as Flora, Violet and Küçük Virjin.

The most popular songs of Peruz Terzakyan were „ Kalbi viranım yanıyor, yok bana rahmedecek" and "Arap Kızı".

Peruz Terzakyan did not only create her own Kanto style, she was also the only Kanto artist who published her own Kanto compositions under the title "Neşe-i Dil" (Speaking joyfully). The most important historic Kanto compilation, the Nuhbe-i Elhan published by Selim Şamlı in five volumes, which lists 89 Kantos with lyrics, sheet music and composers, also contains twelve Kantos by Peruz Terzakyan.
