The actor Vasfi Rıza Zobu, who was also born in 1902, the same year as Neyyire Neyir tells how he met her:

" The producer Mr Muhsin Ertuğrul decided to hire Muslim actresses for the lead characters, Ayse and Kezban, in the film "Ateşten Gömlek" (The Daughter of Smyrna). Bedia Muvahhit, from the conservatory theatre group, was selected for the role of Ayşe. When Muhsin Ertuğrul couldn't find a second Muslim actress, he advertised in the newspaper. The next day he received one application. Kemal Film's office was in Sirkeci, on top of the "Ali Efendi" cinema . That day I saw Neyyire at the office. She was still at college but she applied for the role. In the office they told me she was waiting for Mr Ertuğrul."

Neyyire Neyir, like Bedia Muvahhit, is one of the first two Turkish Muslim film actresses in the republican period. In 1923 Neyyire Neyir and Bedia Muvahhit, two young Muslim women, acted together in the film "Ateşten gömlek". The screenplay was adapted from Halide Edip Adıvar`s novel "Ateşten Gömlek" (1922; The Daughter of Smyrna) and the film was directed by Muhsin Ertugrul.
In "Ateşten Gömlek", Neyyire Neyir played the role of Ayse, and Bedia Muvahhit the part of Kezban. Theater actress Kınar Sıvacıyan also appeared in this film.
After this first experience as actress Neyyire Neyir performed in many films but mainly she acted in the theatre in Istanbul and Izmir.
