In classical Turkish literature, a Diwan is a compilation of poems. In book form a Divan has a unique structure. A poet's Divan not only shows her artistic talent and creativity, but also expresses her social and political views. For a work to be considered a Divan it must contain five chapters:

  • A chapter with poems dedicated to political figures of the period;
  • A chapter with poems dedicated to the social history of the poet's era;
  • A chapter using special poetic styles like terkib-i bend, murabba and tahmis;
  • A chapter with patterns based on the last letter of the verse using the Arabic alphabet;
  • A chapter with short poem forms like Kıta, Matla, Muamma, Lugaz, Müfret, Azade.
