The 17 Goals of the United Nations Member States for a Sustainable Development

Responsible consumption and production

Have you heard of "sustainable fashion"?
Is the taste of "fair chocolate" better than "unfair chocolate"?

If we change our lifestyle, our consumption habits, our production techniques and cut the proportion of foodstuff disposed of in half, we can create an economy that respects the natural limits of our planet.

  • Humankind is polluting water in rivers and lakes faster than nature can recycle and purify it.

  • Each year, an estimated 1/3 of all food produced - equivalent to 1.3 billion tons worth around $1 trillion - ends up rotting in the bins of consumers and retailers, or is spoiled due to poor transportation and harvesting practices. 53 percent of the fruit and vegetables produced in Turkey is rotten until it reaches the consumer. In Turkey 23% of the food is thrown away without being consumed.

  • The food sector accounts for around 30 per cent of the world's total energy consumption and accounts for around 22 per cent of total greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Commercial and residential energy use is the second most rapidly growing area of global energy use after transport.

Make sure that you follow sustainable consumption and production patterns! Take action!
