The 17 Goals of the United Nations Member States for a Sustainable Development
Which countries' constitutions provide rights for nature to be protected from destruction?
Biodiversity, which forms the basis of our lives, is rapidly disappearing.
It should be protected. This is possible: The constitutions of Ecuador, Bolivia and Uganda, for example, grant rights to nature in order to protect it from exploitation and destruction.
-
Around 1.6 billion people depend on forests for their livelihood, including 70 million indigenous people.
-
Between 2010 and 2015 the world lost 3.3 million hectares of forest areas. Poor rural women depend on common pool resources and are especially affected by their depletion.
-
Due to drought and desertification, 12 million hectares of arable land are lost each year (23 hectares per minute). Within one year, 20 million tons of grain could have been grown there.
Manage forests sustainably, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation, halt biodiversity loss! Take action!
